FERGUS ALTERNATIVE

Fergus vs
Gas Engineer Software

Both offer job management, quotes, invoices, and certificates from a web portal and phone combo. The difference is focus: While Fergus covers 10+ trades from electrical to pest control, Gas Engineer Software places all effort into making software for UK heating & plumbing businesses.

OVERVIEW

What are the main differences between Fergus and GES?

  • 1

GES is made only for heating & plumbing businesses

Fergus is built for ten-plus trades: electricians, roofers, cleaners, pest control, etc. Gas Engineer Software is built for heating & plumbing, and nothing else.

This means you aren't paying for features you'll never use, the app stays uncluttered, and workflows are built around your work, not bolted on.

  • 2

GES has everything a heating engineer needs, in one app

With GES you get gas rate and pipe sizing calculators, 2,300+ boiler manuals, and boiler AI Assist, all in the same app you schedule jobs and create your records.

You can even connect to your flue gas analyser via Bluetooth to import readings into your certificate.

  • 3

GES offers simple setup with best-in-class support

Gas Engineer Software is quick and easy to set up, but we pride ourselves on offering the best support in the industry.

While Fergus only offers phone support on their Professional plan, GES has a helpline available Mon-Fri, 9-5 for all plans and even trial users.

"Gas Engineer Software is a great fit. For the price range, you'd have to be psychotic to say no — it's such great value for money."

IN DETAIL

Where GES wins as the heating business platform

Both GES and Fergus offer great job management capabilities, but the key difference is that while Fergus considers certificates as an add-on feature, GES treats them as a core part of the job. Here’s how:

Your analyser talks to the app as you fill out a certificate

Pair over Bluetooth and the readings drop straight into the certificate, together with a dated report that contains the results and calibration info to cover your work.

  • Kane, Anton and TPI analysers supported
  • Readings added directly into the certificate
  • One less place to fat-finger a figure
Fergus doesn't offer a flue gas analyser integration.

2,300+ boiler manuals at your fingertips while you're on the tools

Stuck on a model you've not seen before? Search the library from the van, or ask the AI assistant in plain English and get the answer while you're still stood at the boiler.

  • Manuals for 2,300+ appliances
  • Settings, specs and fault codes
  • Answers in seconds, on the job
Fergus doesn't have a boiler manual library or AI assistant.

All the gas tools you need, built in

Gas rate and pipe sizing sit inside the same app as your certificates, so you're not juggling a calculator app and a paperwork app on the same job.

  • Gas rate calculator in the app
  • Pipe sizing without a second tool
Fergus doesn't include trade calculators.

Boiler service reminders that are truly automated

When you issue a certificate in GES, the appliance service date is automatically updated and a reminder automatically scheduled (as per your settings). A year later it goes out in your words, from your number, helping you generate repeat business and reliable income.

  • Queued the moment you issue the certificate
  • Email and SMS, your wording
  • 33% of reminders turn into jobs
£23 earned per reminder sent, on average.

Fergus vs Gas Engineer Software: FAQs

Anything we haven't covered? Talk to our team.

Does Fergus do gas certificates?

Yes. Fergus has a UK certificates add-on, free on their plans, covering the Landlord and Homeowner Gas Safety Record along with a range of gas, oil and electrical records.

The certificates themselves aren't the difference — what sits around them is. Gas Engineer Software pulls your analyser readings in over Bluetooth, remembers the appliance details from the last visit, and queues the service reminder the moment you issue the record.

Which one works out cheaper?

Gas Engineer Software is the more cost effective option for heating & plumbing businesses. Fergus costs £39 to £45 per user a month across Essentials and Professional, with timesheet users charged on top from £12 each. GES is £18 to £31 per user depending on the plan.

Can you help move my data over?

Yes. Export what you've got out of your existing platform/system and our UK team will walk you through getting customers, appliances and job history into GES during the trial, on a free onboarding call.

Plenty of people run both side by side for the fortnight before they commit to either.

How long is the trial, and do you need a card?

14 days with access to every feature, and no card details to start.

That's long enough to put a couple of weeks of real jobs through it and see whether the certificates and reminders work the way you do. If it doesn't suit, do nothing and it stops.
