Making Tax Digital is here.
From April 2026, sole-trader heating & plumbing engineers earning over £50k must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC. Gas Engineer Software sends all your invoices and payments to your accounts as you work — so you’re MTD-ready, automatically.
Stay compliant without losing a day to paperwork.
What's changing — and when it affects you
HMRC is rolling out MTD for Income Tax in three waves. Here's where you fit.
Sole traders earning over £50,000
Quarterly digital submissions to HMRC are now mandatory. If you're in this band, you need MTD-compatible software in place.
Sole traders earning over £30,000
Same rules apply. If you're nearing this threshold, now's the time to get your digital records in order.
Sole traders earning over £20,000
The threshold drops again. Almost every working heating and plumbing engineer will be in scope by this date.
Five submissions a year — at a glance
Four quarterly updates throughout the year, plus one Final Declaration after it ends.
HMRC also lets you elect for calendar quarter reporting (1 Apr–30 Jun, etc.) if that's easier — speak to your accountant about which suits you best.
